Document Summary
Intrusive rocks: molten the cools below the surface (granite, gabbro, basalt) Extrusive rocks: molten that cools above the surface (lava) Light colour, low density + forms at low temperatures. Solidiied from mineral mater in a high temp molten starts. Cooling allows crystals to form (someimes has this structure) Maic: magnesium and iron (oceanic rock has a lot) Dark colour, dense + found in high temperature rocks. Rocks are composed of 3-4 common silicate minerals. Felsic : dominant in feldspar and silicon. A naturally occurring, inorganic substance (elements) that has a deinite chemical composiion and an atomic structure. Have disinct properies as a result of the chemical composiion. Cover 75% of earth but make up 5% of its mass. Clasic: inorganic rock and mineral fragments (as sediments squeeze together) (shale) Chemically precipitated: formed from compounds precipitated from a soluion (limestone) Organic sediment: plant and animal issues (bog, peat, moss)
