Development of more complex structures within organisms (e. g. nuclear membrane, multicellularity, vascular system) Colonization of novel habitats (e. g. land surfaces) Organism effects on environment (e. g. o2 in the atmosphere) Interactions among organisms (e. g. symbioses, pathogenesis, competition for limiting resources) Development of more complex reproductive systems (e. g. diploidy, alternation of generations, sexual reproduction) Recognize and describe the key features of a wide range of organisms including trees, bacteria, cyanobacteria, algae and fungi. Explain the mechanisms that generate biological diversity: mutation, environmental selection, sexual selection. Pathogens: intersction (competing) with species niches and speciations. We anticipate that there are at least as many species of flowering plant anf there are of all prokaryotes.
