What are attributions - coming up for reasons why something has happen. We have a very strong need to understand what"s going on around us. Created attributional heuristics, rule of thumb, why people are doing what they"re doing, thinking. We can use attributions to help us understand: other"s behaviour, our own behaviour. Tendency to explain others" behaviour in terms of disposition, while ignoring situational factors. Aka correspondence bias - behavioural economists study this to and they use this term. Misunderstanding behaviours of others, maybe missing out on opportunities for self (like a new friend) Impression formation - while ignoring your situation, look only at behaviour and form impression of them without taking into account anything else but disposition. You could be very wrong, if you see someone trip you may think they"re a clumsy person, but you may have failed to notice that there was a crack in the ground.
