There was no flood, no flying saucer. These people gave up all worldly possessions so what do they do. Cult leader sat in her room, said that god spoke through her pen, and he said that they had saved humanity and restored his faith in humans. That makes them special, that makes them heroes. I joined this cult in order to escape from a great flood, be saved by aliens and then return to repopulate the earth. Dissonance - need to get rid of thing that suggests you"re a bad person, save self esteem.
