Document Summary
Group is a collection of 3+ people who interact with one another and are interdependent, in the sense that their needs and goals cause them to rely on one another. Groups are people who have assembled together for a common purpose. Influence in groups is a two-way street, you influence them and they influence you. Substantial survival advantage to those who belong in a group in evolutionary past. People in all cultures are motivated to form relationships, and resist the dissolution of these relationships. Groups are important for our identity, help us define who we are. Groups to which we belong help us define who we expect to be in the future. Group membership also plays an important role in motivating people to become involved in social change. Groups help establish social norms, the explicit or implicit rules defining what is acceptable behaviour. Most social groups range from sizes of 3 to 6 members.
