First stage is precontemplation : an inability or unwillingness to acknowledge the existence of a problem. Second stage is contemplation : the individual acknowledges the existence of the problem but may be unsure or unwilling to change the problem. Third stage is preparation : individuals recognize the problem and prepare for change. Fourth stage is action : taking active steps to change the behaviour.
