Document Summary

Altruism exist throughout the animal kingdom: organisms evolved to maximize their fitness and reproductive success. But by doing this, it draws attention to itself, alerting predator to its location: ex: humans spend so much time helping family, friends, strangers. From evolutionary perspective, you should only be concerned with your own survival and reproduction. 4 types of social behaviours: actor-the one performing the act. Well-being can improve or decline based by which behaviour they decide to perform: recipient- the one on the receiving end of the behaviour performed by actor. Well-being can also improve/decline based by actor"s behaviour: if actor does something that helps both himself and recipient -> cooperative, if actor does something that helps himself and hurts the recipient -> selfish. Cooperation sometimes reaps more benefit than selfishness: ex: in a hockey team with only 6 players. One of the players, bill is not a good player.
