Case study about the greenbelt introduction in the greater golden horseshoe area, which is a large and thriving location in canada. The article argues that the introduction and design of the greenbelt can be associated with the anti-sprawl movement in ontario. Because of the less obstacles in the canadian system, the provincial government are able to control and regulate urban planning in major districts, such as toronto with more freedom. The article argues that within this institutional context land use-planning in ontario has evolved to a characteristic government style, which has a massive impact on the greenbelt policy. First part of article is talking how the greenbelt acts as an important tool for protecting valuable farmland and constraining urban-sprawl in rural areas. The second part of the article discusses the structural framework of government and the responsibilities between the provincial and the municipal governments.
