Pre 1982 rights: saumur v. city of quebec 1953, munci by law prohibiting distribution of literature in the streets without proper authorization, this targeted jehovah"s witnesses, limited free speech, expression, and religion, inn a 5 4 decision, the court ruled that regulation of speech and religion were not in the jurisdiction of quebec and for that reason they struck down the bylaw, but not because it was unjust but it had to do solely with issues regarding jurisdiction. Rights: superceeded by war measures act 1970, only 1 law ever invalidated the bill of rights; 1976 drybones case; could not be drunk off of their reservation; this violated his equality rights and it was struck down for being unjust and infringing upon rights, section 24, bill of rights laid out the rights but did not have the mechanisms to enforce it, but it does in the charter.
