There were only copyright, patents, ideas the world of those ideas was a parallel world in which we lie alongside the material world. The powerful infrastructure of that world isn"t the roads, buildings of the material world economy but rather the highways of the mind. Economic conduits bringing valuable ideas and symbolic commodities eg. phone conversation is part of symbolic economy by exchanging intellectual ideas. Virtual / digital = representing the material world in our mental environment.
