CHEMENG 2G03 Study Guide - Newtonian Fluid, Turbulence, Cartesian Coordinate System
Document Summary
I found the article experimental and numerical simulation of the effect of particles on flow. Structures in secondary sedimentation tanks on the journal of applied fluid mechanics (jafm) website. A pdf file of the full article is attached to the submission e-mail for this assignment. This article discusses how the introduction of solid particles in a fluid affects the properties of the flow with regards to shear stress and the streamwise velocity profile. To simplify the set-up of the governing equations, rectangular coordinates were chosen for the experiment, which took place in a sedimentary tanks. The fluid had a low particulate concentration so the fluid could be approximated as a newtonian fluid with a turbulent flow, which is one of the major conditions for most material covered in this course. Similar to theory taught it class, governing equations of motion were organized and simplified from conservation of momentum and force balances.
