Living things acquire and use materials/ energy. Living things require material because they require energy, they eat to move, they need energy so they take int material to form energy. (ex. Even bacteria take in chemicals to create energy). The great chain of being- all life depends on each other, concept which forces you to realize how things are interrelated. Organisms maintain relatively constant internal conditions, (ex. bacteria can hibernate for millenniums and wake up), however, higher organisms maintain internal conditions. Homeostasis means maintaining homeostatic characteristics, certain temperatures. (ex. warm blooded and cold blooded organisms that allow them to live). Able to maintain internal conditions through energy. (homeostasis applies to everything internally not just temperature!)
