Document Summary

In this paper i will be discussing the topic of killing vs letting die and how rachels approaches this idea and how nesbitt critiques rachels" approach and adds a new perspective to it. I will also be offering my own critical analysis of the argument i deem stronger. According to rachels there is no morally relevant distinction between killing and letting die (rachels, 79). In each case there is a man (smith or jones) who stands to inherit a large sum of money should his six-year-old cousin die. Because of their greed they each plan to go into the bathroom and drown their nephew in the bathtub. Smith goes into the bathroom, and drowns the child and makes it look like an accident. Jones goes into the bathroom with the same plan, but luckily for him, the child hit his head and is already drowning.
