Presenting problem: why person came into clinic. Clinical description: unique thoughts, behaviours, feelings make up specific disorder. Incidence: how many new cases occur during a given period (eg. year) Chronic course: tend to last long - sometimes lifetime. Episodic course: recover in a few months, only to have recurrence again later. Time-limited course: improve without treatment in short period. Biological, psychological and social dimensions: identify some the common etiological factors and treatment approaches that existed during the supernatural tradition of abnormal psychology. Etiology: bizarre behaviour of people attributed to demons and witches. Moon played a part in some supernatural behaviour (lunatics). Not disorder specific - general backbone of everything else. Humoral theory (galen): 4 humors must be in balance to be healthy - normal brain functioning. Treatment for balance: change environment (dryness, moisture, cold), blood-letting, vomiting, rest, good nutrition, exercise.
