Kaotzu: water has to be bent into a path to make it flow. Mencius: water does naturally flow; it flows downwards so long as you do not impede it. The human mind present at birth: we can learn to have a full moral sense, reason, etc. but the capacity must be realized. P: we are alike in interests such as beautiful art, good music, tasty food. P: our minds cannot be so different from our sense that it is not shared by all humans. C: therefore we must all be alike in mind too. C: therefore our minds must appreciate morality just as our taste buds appreciate good food. Analogy of sage and chef: we have a supposed liking for the chefs food and morality alike. Weak analogy: even in infancy our sensory preferences differ (ie carrots or squash) and only further separate in adulthood.
