Document Summary

Bergeron process: when water collects on an ice crystal and make it bigger as it moves. Vapour condenses onto freezing (cid:494)nuclei(cid:495) and grows with additional condensation. Collision-coalescence process: as rain falls it collides with other drops and forms a bigger one. As they grow, they fall faster, and have more collisions, and grow more. Air pressure: pressure exerted by weight of air above. Measured by mercury barometers (atmosphere pushes down on liquid inside and rises), and aneroid barometers (without liquid). Forces that affect wind speed and direction: movement from high to low pressure areas, pressure gradient force, coriolis force, friction force. Convergence of the cells causes air to rise and circulate through thirds of the globe. Polar high> sub-polar low > subtropical high > equatorial low. Relative humidity: the total moisture/vapour content in the air. If the air temperature is hot, the air holds more vapour, and holds less when it(cid:495)s cold.
