Document Summary

I still don"t understand this after talking about it in class. Moral distinction is something that individuals (yourself) hold morally wrong. An example of a moral distinction is lying to a friend. Conventional distinction is an action that the society holds morally wrong. An example of a conventional distinction is speeding. Often, moral and conventional distinctions over lap because an action is personally morally wrong and also deemed wrong (against the law) in the society. It is against our values to murder someone. The distinction is not satisfactory because it is not every situation only in some cases. We tend to use moral distinction simply clear-cut; many things fit into both categories and cannot be distinguished. For example, first cousin incest is not only morally wrong, but it is also illegal. Therefore, incest fits into both categories and cannot be distinguished well.
