On the last thursday in february, the indigenous and northern affairs held a committee meeting at the house of commons in ottawa. The meeting was scheduled to examine the results of the first nations food, nutrition, and environment study. Laurie chan, university of ottawa professor, began the gathering by emphasizing the success of this research. This is the most comprehensive statistically representative study on nutrition and the environmental health of first nations ever completed in canada. It is a true partnership between universities, the assembly of first nations and the federal government. my knowledge of the research process within the house of commons is very limited. To my personal surprise, this specific study was conducted over the course of 11 years with over million in funding being received on behalf of health canada and indigenous services canada. The numbers throughout this meeting were specific and outlined carefully with chan also mentioning the study.
