Go look at a map of russia you dumbass ***maps are in course-pack: this area hasn"t always been called russia; this area also includes ukraine, etc. Theme: in geographical terms, russia is a unified country: no large intervening mountain ranges, nothing dividing the country east/west or north/south. Since there is nothing dividing their country : there is no barrier for invasion, but it made it easy for expansion. And internal migration: made for uniformity. Peoples: none of the particularism in russia that one sees in the balkans or switzerland. Where people living between mountains develop different customs. Russia has great mountains but they"re on the border: carpathians (west)- lenin spent time climbing carpathians, caucasus (south)- barrier between the black sea and caspian sea. In the valleys, particularism has developed and caused problems since. 1991 *we"ll study at the end of the year: tien shan and pamir mts. Near india and afghanistan: east: altai mts. , east: verhoiansk mts.
