Apartheid in south africa had begun in the 1940"s and this form of racial segregation had continued up until 1994 when nelson mandela was elected as president. Throughout some of the south african literature however, it is often difficult to distinguish between depictions of. Even though apartheid had been abolished, violence and oppression still remained which is evident throughout some of the depictions of post-apartheid south africa. Neill blomkamp"s film district 9 is a mock-documentary depiction of apartheid in south. By putting in aliens to stand in for black south africa it illustrates the struggles, oppression and segregation they had endured. Both of these works describe different south african era"s yet by comparing them it illustrates how even though apartheid had ended, the circumstances remain very much the same. Blomkamp"s district 9 is a representation of south africa during the apartheid era. Aliens were used to represent the ways black people were treated during apartheid.
