IMED2004 Study Guide - Final Guide: Assortative Mating
Document Summary
Continued breeding of individuals with similar characteristics. A selective breeding method in which two individuals with identical or similar sets of alleles are crossed. Breed from closely related people or animals, especially over many generations. Mating between individuals of the same phenotype or by those who live nearby. Occurs when the probability that two individuals in a population will mate is not the same for all possible pairs of individuals. Mating based on preferred phenotypes rather than on random choices. Mating between relatives occurs more often than expected by chance. Based on traits that are less similar more prone to mating. Across genome and around trait in that mating preference was first established. = homozygous individual has two copies of same allele. Two alleles are alike in structure and function but do not have a common origin. Diploid org at the bottom have 2 copies of same allele a1 (homozygous)
