IMED1001: Revision Tutorial 7 Notes
Cardiac Muscle Type:
- Found in the heart only!
Skeletal Muscle Cells:
-Purpose is for the movement of joints !
-Exceptions: skin of face!!
Smooth Muscle Cells:
-Part of most viscera (internal organs)!
Cardiac Muscle:
-striation seen!
-Short and branched cells!
-Has a central, single nucleus!
-Contraction is rapid like skeletal muscle!
-Has auto-rhythmicity: contracts on its own, due to auto regulation by nerves!
Smooth Muscle:
-Found in walls of internal organs !
-Found in BV!
-Cells are short and spindle shaped!
-Striations cannot be seen (= smooth)!
-Rhythmic contractions (no nerve stimulation) !
-= nerve regulated!
Neurons Function:
= excitable cell !
-Helps generate nerve impulses and transmit them!
-Called action potential !
-Structure: contains:!
1. Cell body!
2. Long processes!
-Short branched processes RECEIVE nerve impulses!
-Long branched terminal processes TRANSMIT nerve impulses!
Neurons Structure:
-Dendrites are short, and close to body!
-Myelin sheaths may be present on long processes!
-Myelin is used for insulation!
-= faster conduction of nerve impulses!
Features of Neurons:
