What is an attitude: evaluative statements, either positive or negative; concerning objects, people or events, attitudes reflect how one feels about something. Components of attitudes: cognitive component, an opinion or belief, affective component, the emotional or feeling segment associated with that belief, behavioural component, the intention to behave in a certain way. Critique of the five-stage model: suggests it"s a linear model in reality it is not, steps may be skipped, there may be regression etc, several stages may occur simultaneously. Sequence of actions: setting group direction, first phase of inertia, half-way point transition, major changes, second phase of inertia, accelerated activity. Building blocks of groups: group size (and social loafing, the tendency to withhold physical or intellectual effort when performing a group task: Free rider effect people lower their effort to get a free ride at the expense of their fellow group members.
