A 2.60L copper can is filled with water, and both are in thermalequilibrium at 78.00 C. When placed outside where the temperatureis at 8.00 C, how much water will overflow of could be added?
(β for water is 21 x 10^-5 (C)^-1, β for copper is 50 x 10^-6(C)^-1)
MY ANSWER:
ÎVwater = βVOÎT = (21 X10^-5)(2.60)(8-78)=-0.03822L OR 38.2mL
ÎVcan = βVOÎT = (50 X 10^-6)(2.60)(8-78) =-0.009L or 9 mL
38.2mL-9mL = 29.2mL ofwater can be added
