A 2.5g penny is placed 3.0 cm from the center of a vinyl recordrotating at 78 revolutions per
minute. The penny rotates with the same angular velocity as therecord itself.
(a) Draw a free-body diagram of the penny. Make a grid which showsall components of all
forces acting on the penny.
(b) Find the frictional force acting on the penny.
(c) The penny is gradually moved further and further from thecenter of the record. When the
penny is 8.0 cm from the center of the record, it is unable torotate along with the record.
Instead, it slips. Find the coefficient of friction acting betweenthe penny and the record. Is this
a coefficient of static friction or of kinetic friction?
