The classical sociologists Emile Durkheim, Max Weber, and Karl Marx all saw capitalistic endeavor as being a potential source of discontent in society. Each posited a different solution to the problem. Durkheim wanted to make sure workplaces became locations of positive social interaction, Weber sought to have people take pride in specializing within a bureaucratic organizational structure, while Marx thought capitalism was a failed system and tried to replace it with Communism. How has history made capitalism not so bad in the 21st century?
