For this extra credit assignment, you must use your knowledge of acids and bases to solve the following mystery. A sleep-deprived student made it to lab and prepared five different solutions and placed them in five flasks numbered 1 through 5 ellipsis but forgot to label the flasks with the identities of the solutions. The prepared solutions are 0.5 M aqueous potassium chloride, 1 M sulfuric acid, 1 M acetic acid, 1 M aqueous sodium sulfate, and 1 M aqueous sodium hydroxide. After some experiments, we found the following information: Flask 3 contains a solution with a pH higher than 4.9. If H2SO_4 is added to the solution in flask 4, the product is the same as that present in flask 2. In flask 5, there is not an organic compound.
