Nitrogen gas is contained in a piston and cylinder device with a free-floating piston. Initially, the gas is 27 degree C and occupies a volume of 0.18 m^3 at a pressure of 500 kPa. The gas is slowly heated until the temperature is 400 degree C, while the pressure remains constant. For nitrogen: Determine: a. The amount of heat added to the piston. b. The work done during this process. The piston reaches a barrier once T = 400 degree C and can no longer expand. However, the gas is heated until the temperature reaches 1000 degree C. Determine: c. The amount of heat added to the system. d. The work done during the process With the temperature still at 1000 degree C, the system is placed inside a well-insulated container. The piston is compressed to one half of its volume. Find: e. The work done on the piston. f. The temperature of the gas after compression.
