It is a highly serious, potentially fatal, mosquito borne disease. Disease background: first account of sickness of yellow fever was diagnosed in 1648. In 45 countries of africa and latin america: more than 900 million people are at risk, 200,000 cases and 30,000 deaths worldwide each year. Host factors: all ages and both sexes, person in contact with forests such as wood cutters, hunters etc. Immunity: one attack of yellow fever gives lifelong immunity. Yellow fever can be transmitted with three transmission cycles named as follows: sylvatic (jungle) transmission, urban transmission. Human can be in one of the five categories at a time: Susceptible exposed infective recovered (virus incubating) (contagious) (survivor victims) Environmental factors: tropical with a relative humidity, endemic presence of disease in jungle. Period of communicability: blood of patients is infective during first 3-4 days. When mosquito feeds on person virus gets transmitted to person. Travels through body and spread to various glands.
