BSC CHEMISTRY Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Wind Farm, Anaerobic Digestion, Tidal Power
Document Summary
Renewable resources are natural resources that cannot be depleted: sun, wind, hydropower, geothermal, tidal and, biomass. It is used to dry food, heat water, generating electricity. Sun provides light for photosynthesis to the plants. Different technologies are developed to collect and convert solar radiation into heat energy that can be used for various purposes. Dis advantage: depend upon the weather condition, seasons, and geographical location, solar panels are very costly, need a lot of open space. Wind energy actually a byproduct of sun. it is a clean, sustainable, renewable energy source that has much smaller impact on the environment. Wind power is one of the lowest priced energy sources available today. Windmills, that are collect and convert kinetic energy to electricity. The largest offshore wind farm in the world is called the walney extensions. This windfarm is located in the irish sea approximately 19 kilometers west of the north west coast of england. Dis advantage: depends on the climatic condition.
