Epiglottis: a flap of cartilage at the roof of the tongue, which is depressed during swallowing to cover the opening of the windpipe. Larynx: the hollow muscular organ forming an air passage to the lungs and holding the vocal cords. Trachea: tube in your throat that carries air to your lungs (windpipe) Bronchus: airway in the respiratory tract that conducts air into the lungs. Lungs: either of two saclike respiratory organs in the chest of vertebrates; serves to remove carbon dioxide and provide oxygen to the blood. Alveoli: any of the many tiny air sacs in the lungs where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place. Diaphragm: dome shaped muscle and membranous partition that separating the abdominal and thoracic cavities. a major muscle aiding inhalation.
