Document Summary
: knowledge that enables us to recognize objects and events and to make inferences about their properties. A mental representation of a class or individual or a meaning of objects events, abstract ideas used for cognitive functions provide rules for sorting objects into categories. Ex. cat organized in terms of categories: includes all possible examples of a particular concept categorization: the process by which things are placed in categories being able to categorize helps us to understand behaviour. :we can decide if something is part of a category by determine whether an object meets the definition of that category. Works well for geometric objects, natural objects, human-made objects. Problem: not all members of everyday categories have the same features. Ex. chair: piece of furniture with 4 legs, back arm that is used for a person to sit this works for chairs, couches, but not for a rock or counter top or cushion seat.
