PSYCO258 Chapter Notes -Retina, Premotor Cortex, Embodied Cognition
Document Summary
Perception: experiences resulting from stimulation of the senses. Is a dynamic process that can change with added information involves a constructive process similar to reasoning & problem solving. Perceptual rules apply ex. when objects overlap the one under continues behind the one on top. Perception is not automatic its an active process of constructing reality based on what is relevant to us perception is central to our ability to organize our actions as we interact with the environment. It is difficult to create a machine that can perceive as well as humans because a large component of perception is having previous experience and knowledge there has been small success with creating an artificial form of perception. Challenges to perception: stimulus on the receptors is ambiguous, the perceptual system starts with an image on the retina and its job is to determine what object created the image.
