Document Summary

Lecture 01 - the makings of cognitive neuroscience. Cognitive psychology: the science study of mental processes: mental processes = aspects of cognitive on such as memory, attention, language, etc. For example, you wake up late for the first day of classes, freak out and make it to class. Kind of like you"re looking inside yourself for meaning and knowledge. Surveys used to see what people want and need. Introspection is useful for some learning about the mind but, not the only one used. Psychologists were so confused by this it became primarily focused on behaviour. They chose to study what they could see only. Behaviourism offers good understanding for behaviour: we can measure and analyse it. Cognitive revolution rejected the notion that only behavior should be subject to study: talked about mind and body and behaviour all together, behaviour should not be a sole focus of psychology, incorporated the mind as well.
