Most knowledge comes after school in the field. Edith wharton (1897) ~ the decoration of houses. Elsie de wolfe (1904) ~ first interior designer. Dorthy draper (1923) ~ established the first interior design company in the u. s. Evidence based design (1980"s) ~ research based design. Decorating was at the turn of the century. Design was not until after wwii (1940"s) The work decorators is able to change but the work of designers are more permanent. Tv shows can provide clients with unrealistic expectations. Tv shows plan things around good television not around reality. Great for tv, not for real life. Everyone is different and the client might not like. The goal is to surprise the client what is picked. Quality and speed go hand in hand assign to a project.
