Models of behavior change: the transtheoretical model (stages of change, the transtheoretical model is founded on 3 assumptions (list 3): Behavior change involves a series of different steps or stages. There are common stages and processes of change across a variety of health behaviors. Tailoring an intervention to the stage of change people are in now is more effective than not considering the stage people are in: list and describe the 5 stages of the transtheoretical model through which people move. Precontemplation: an individual is either unaware of or not interested in making a change. Contemplation: an individual is thinking about making a change, usually within the next six months. They may be weighing the risks and benefits of changing a behavior. Preparation: an individual that actively decided to change and plan a change, usually within a month. They may also have already tried changing in the recent past.
