Document Summary

A clear predictive statement (not a question) *examining converging information from different sources (qualitative and quantitative research: results. Information or data collected by the researcher in an attempt to resolve their hypothesis. * maybe quantitative or qualitative in nature: interpretation. The discussion section of a research paper. This is where the authors unpack the meaning behind the results. * particularly true for hypotheses that were not supported: replicability. Results should be the same if you recreate the procedures (i. e. how the original researcher carried out the method) *results were due to a compounding or situational variable. Meta analyses avoids the issue of replicability. Theory=explanation/model that fits many observations and makes accurate predictions. Evaluating scientific theories: burden of proof, parsimony. Falsifiable=stated in such clear, precise terms that we can see what evidence would count against it. Ex 2: frankie (dog) is the reincarnated spirit of an ancient queen. However the point of research is not always to falsify a theory!
