The following are the main principles of ethics. Autonomy-autonomy refers to the idea of valuing and upholding a person"s right to self- determination and autonomy. Freedom of choice and action is at the heart of this philosophy. It discusses the counselor"s duty to assist clients in making their own choices and acting on their ideas when the time is right. Clients must understand how their choices and ideals will be accepted in the context of society, as well as how their actions may affect others" rights. The second concern is about the client"s capacity to make sensible and sound judgments. Children and certain people with mental disorders should not be permitted to make decisions that might hurt themselves or others, since they aren"t capable of doing so. There must be an explanation for why the counselor is treating a person differently, and that explanation must be clear and concise.
