PSYC 255 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Youversion, First Epistle To Timothy, Baker Publishing Group
Document Summary
This case study illustrates the difficulties facing missionaries in a demanding and challenging ministry. When translating a bible into a language that was only spoken in the past, there are difficulties to overcome. This will have a profound impact on ministering to the community when completed, but also presents challenges. It is polygamy among a nearby tribe that is the most pressing issue for the missionaries in this case study. It is imperative that they behave cautiously and make wise judgments. When it comes to making any type of decision about the provision of medical care and linguistic advancements in west africa, missionaries must weigh many factors. As a result, how they conduct their ministry affects people. According to their faith, the missionaries learned guidance through biblical principles, including about marriage as the bible relates to it. Also, they come from a culture that views monogamous relationships as the norm. The concept of polygamy would be foreign to them.
