NURSING Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Respiratory Tract, Mammary Gland, Goblet Cell
Document Summary
Tissue- group of cells with similar structure & function. Simple columnar epithelium- one layer of column-shaped cells. Ciliated tissues are in bronchi, uterine tubes & urethra; smooth (non-ciliated tissues) are in digestive tract and. Epithelial tissues- classified as to shape of cells & bladder number of layers of cells. Found on surfaces as covering or as lining. No capillaries (receive o2 & nutrients from blood to supply the connective tissue) Simple squamous epithelium- one layer of flat cells, thin & smooth. Most suited for rapid diffusion, filtration and secretes lubricating substances. Alveolar sacs (air sacs) of the lungs, the lining of the heart, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. Stratified squamous epithelium- many layers of mostly flat cells; mitosis takes place in lowest layer. Epithelium- surface cells are rounded & flatten when stretched. Simple cuboidal epithelium- one layer of cube-shaped cells. In ducts and secretory portions of small glands and in kidney tubules. Stratified cuboidal epithelium- many layers of cube-shaped cells.
