There are common motifs in all of our dreams. Being followed, falling through space, being unprepared for a signi cant occasion, having the majority of your dreams have negative or gloomy content, and experiencing hostile as opposed to friendly dreams are some common dream scenarios. Dreamers are able to anticipate when they will go into dream sleep. People who are creative commonly assert that their ideas came to them in dreams. This is explained by the activation-synthesis hypothesis: freud"s theory of wish ful llment he believed that sex and violence are the two main unconscious urges that drive individuals. Random brainstem signals cause the cortex to become active. Synthesis: the brain creates stories to interpret those activations. In our dreams, we could ful ll our urges to engage in violent or sexual activities. Chapter 14: character freud"s theory of personality is referred to as psychoanalysis, and the term "making the unconscious conscious" is used to describe a therapeutic technique.
