Document Summary

Hurricanes, also known as tropical cyclones or typhoons, unleash massive amounts of energy over wide areas, and are capable of tremendous destruction. This lab explores the basics of tropical cyclones as well as hazards associated with cyclones: basics of tropical cyclones. Dec 21 mar 20 summer summer summer fall summer summer summer. Table 2: cyclone activity throughout the year by ocean basin. The role of the intertropical convergence zone (itcz) The itcz, or intertropical convergence zone, is also called earth"s thermal equator. Due to earth"s spherical shape as well as to the distribution of land and water, the earth"s surface is heated unevenly. As there is more land in the northern hemisphere, the itcz tends to be pulled slightly northwards because land warms up more dramatically than sea because of its lower specific heat capacity. Where the surface is heated more, it warms the air above it.
