Document Summary

The increasing competitiveness between organizations, the speed of innovation in all industries, the ascending requirements by customers, and the pressure on cost management for operation and investment, are current challenges faced by most companies in today"s global economy. Due to all these factors, the concepts of supply chain management (scm) were widely adopted by many organizations, through the past two decades, as a strategic tool to compete in the global market and networked economy. The main scm functions can be summarized as shown in fig. 1. The coordination and integration of different scm functions have been recognized as the next source of competitive advantage and has become a key factor in the success of medium and large. Focusing on cost minimization in one area of the supply chain often leads to higher costs in other areas. Thus, the integration of decision making would be desired for combined functions.
