Document Summary

Status of morality (doubting the objectivity of morality): Moral judgements are based on desires rather than reason. Widespread moral disagreement is best explained by the lack of objective moral standards. Ethical claims can"t be tested against reality (believing in objective moral standards): Moral facts are simply facts about what we would do if informed and rational. In many situations, the right thing to do is easily known and uncontroversial. Moral discourse aspires to objectivity. more must be said to establish that any specific moral pronouncement is in fact true or false. Disagreement: how can objectivism account for the presence and character of moral disagreement; apply its own theory to itself in order to show it"s not true. Moral knowledge: we can"t know which moral beliefs are true and which are false; accept the existence of the statement that could be true.
