Scale is the relationship of an object or place to the earth. There are two ways scale can be described in geography. Map scale describes the ratio of the distance on a map to distance in the real world in absolute terms. A relative scale or scale of analysis describes the level of aggression or the level you group things together for examination. Scales range in many different ways, like from regional to state to national to international. All levels of scale are of equal importance, glocal refers to this importance (the importance of both local and global). Relative scale is important in order to compare places at different scales.
