CRW 1301 Lecture Notes - Lecture 6: Homicide, Shoplifting, Menopause
Document Summary
Objectives: the image: pereptions of female criminality, the evidence: profiles of female offending, explaining female offending: lonbroso, pollock, adler, cheesy lind. The perception of female criminality: nasty girls and unruly women. There are 2 dynamics here, re- labeling of offenses can cause behaviours that were once ignored to now be classified as crimes that are worthy of being reported/arrest. An example of this is physical altercations in schools. In the past teachers would not have taken violent altercations between girls seriously. Another example of this is how conflicts occur at home. There is increasingly a point where if a parent has increasing physical altercations instigated by the child, they will contact the police to report it as a crime. Police officers are now required to lay criminal charges if while investigating a domestic incident evidence of physical altercation is discovered. The consent of the second party is no longer required.
