Document Summary

The constitution is short and relatively easy to read and because the language is general, it is open to interpretation. The founding fathers, framers, wanted it to last for centuries and they understood what would happen if the document was not unchangeable . The constitution is a series of compromises about power. One method of limiting power was to create a national government divided into 3 branches, each independent and equal. Article 1 created congress, article 2 created presidency, article 3 created judicial. The bill of rights was added to the constitution guaranteeing many liberties directly to individual citizens. Voters in all 50 states elect representatives who go to dc to serve in congress. Article 1 states the commerce clause calls upon congress to regulate commerce among the several states. The dormant aspect holds that a state statute discriminating against interstate commerce is almost always unconstitutional.
