Document Summary

Course materials: required: carey and guiliano, organic chemistry, 10th edition, the companion solution. Friday 11:10am-12:10pm, 568c kolthoff hall http://www. myu. umn. edu (follow the links to canvas) Coverage/goals: the goal of this course is to provide the student with a working knowledge of organic chemistry based on structure, reactivity, mechanisms, synthesis, and spectroscopy of organic molecules. The class covers the second half of carey and guiliano, chapters 13, 15-22, and potentially more. Teaching philosophy: i"m the coach, you"re the team; i"m here to get you ready for game day. Class time expectations: class time will include some traditional lecture materials, mostly on the document. I have found traditional lecture alone an ineffective teaching tool. The goal is to get engaged with the class material during class time; class time is for learning and not just listening. My expectation is that everyone in our classroom will work to cultivate an atmosphere of mutual respect, both between students and between the students and myself.
