Nouns - names of persons, places, things, animals, concepts/ideas, qualities and activities. Pronouns - are words used to represent a noun. Verbs - are words that express actions; they link the subject of the sentence to the predicate. Prepositions - words that connect a noun or a pronoun to other parts of the sentence; often comes before a noun. Conjunctions - words that connect other words, phrases or clauses in sentences. Interjections - words that express strong feelings; these are usually followed by exclamation points. Parts of speech: nouns: plural forms of nouns. Most nouns simply add -s in the plural form. Ex: cat - cats; board - boards; envelope envelopes. Nouns ending in -s, -ch, -sh, -x, or -z usually add -es. When the noun ends in -z the -z is usually doubled before adding -es. Ex: bus - buses; church - churches; bush - bushes; box-boxes; quiz quizzes.
