PSYC 1102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Primary Motor Cortex, Corpus Callosum, Occipital Lobe
Document Summary
Does the things that we aren"t aware of. Lots of surface area for lots of good things. Different parts of this lobe are different sizes for the amount of senses needed in various body parts. The brain"s ability to adapt structure and function in response to experience and damage. Can become a variety of new cells. Sensory response to pain is a reflex. Sensation -> sensory nerves -> spinal cord says fuck you -> motor cords move. Supports and protects other neurons throughout the brain. Acts as insulation for electric messages being sent. Most neurons have these but not all do. Positive charges build in the cell body until it reaches the threshold which activates the action potential. The threshold is the amount of positive charge that is needed to release the action potential. The action potential fires, sending an electrical impulse along the axon to the axon terminal. The gap between them is the synapse.
